World's Largest Coral Reef System
The world’s largest and most diverse coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef is paradise for wildlife-watching, diving and snorkelling. Made up of almost 3000 reefs and more than 900 islands, the entire reef stretches for over 2600 kilometres off the Queensland coast.
The reef’s 350-plus types of corals are made up of hard and soft coral polyps in rainbow colours. Coral spawning is a natural highlight occurring over several nights in November, when new corals are fertilised in a reproductive cloud.
