8 June 2012: 2012 marks the incredible 50th anniversary of The Australian Ballet, and also the 5th anniversary of the internationally acclaimed arts company’s exclusive annual performances at world-class luxury resort, qualia (www.qualia.com.au/events/australia-ballet).

qualia’s Pas de Deux in Paradise has been described by The Australian Ballet as one of the most unique events in their calendar, featuring four of the company’s leading dancers in an exceptional outdoor performance unlike any other.

The stage is set by the water’s edge and nothing else is needed as the breathtakingly beautiful Coral Sea and Whitsunday islands form the exquisite natural backdrop. The Pas de Deux in Paradise weekends begin on the Friday evening with a welcome dinner prepared by qualia’s Executive Chef, Alastair Waddell. A Q&A session during the mouth-watering meal is held with The Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director David McAllister and the dancers, who have previously included Principal Artists Lucinda Dunn, Robert Curran and Rachel Rawlins.

On Saturday, guests are treated to an exclusive behind the scenes look at a dance rehearsal on stage.

All of this sets the scene for an unforgettable pre-dinner performance by the dancers on Saturday night, commencing on the outdoor stage as the sun sets over the Whitsunday passage. The event is emceed by Getaway travel presenter and Pas de Deux in Paradise devotee, Catriona Rowntree.
