Great Barrier Reef Luxury Lodge qualia recognised with inaugural Conde Nast Traveler Triple Crown

04 Jun 2026

qualia, set in the heart of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, has earned a place in Condé Nast Traveler’s inaugural Triple Crown, making it one of just 13 Australian properties recognised across the publication’s Hot List, Gold List and Readers’ Choice Awards over the past 30 years, and among fewer than 400 hotels worldwide to achieve the honour.

Drawing on almost 40 years of editorial authority and reader insight, the Triple Crown recognises hotels that have consistently delivered exceptional guest experiences over time. Since opening in 2007, qualia has helped shape contemporary Australian luxury hospitality through its distinctive combination of privacy, intuitive service, immersive wellness experiences and a deep connection to the natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

Rebecca Hamey, General Manager of qualia, said the recognition highlights qualia’s lasting global appeal nearly two decades after opening.

“Being recognised in Condé Nast Traveler’s inaugural Triple Crown is incredibly meaningful because it acknowledges not just a moment in time, but nearly two decades of consistently exceptional guest experiences,” she said.

“Luxury travel continues to evolve, but what has always defined qualia, and continues to resonate with guests today, is the way it connects guests to the beauty of the Whitsundays through deeply personal service and a profound connection to the surrounding landscape.

“From the beginning, qualia was designed as a private retreat immersed in the natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, shaped by a warm, intuitive and authentically Australian style of hospitality.

“Guests come to qualia seeking complete escape, whether at Spa qualia, exploring icons like Whitehaven Beach and Heart Reef, or simply enjoying the stillness and privacy of the property itself. Many guests return year after year, and we believe it’s that sense of place and complete escape that continues to resonate nearly 20 years after opening.”

Nestled on Hamilton Island’s northern-most tip, qualia is a private sanctuary shaped by the beauty of the Whitsundays. Designed by Australian architect Chris Beckingham, the resort was conceived to sit quietly within the landscape, with each pavilion positioned for light, privacy and uninterrupted views of the Whitsundays and Coral Sea.

Surrounded by native bushland, qualia offers direct access to two of the Great Barrier Reef’s most iconic natural wonders, Whitehaven Beach and Heart Reef, alongside Cultural Island Discovery with Ngaro man Robbie Congoo, a guided experience connecting guests to Country.

A member of Luxury Lodges of Australia, qualia continues to receive global recognition, including a MICHELIN Key in 2025, alongside longstanding inclusion across Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List, Hot List and Readers’ Choice Awards.

Further reflecting Hamilton Island’s growing global profile, The Sundays, the island’s new boutique hotel which opened in April 2025, has been included in the Travel + Leisure IT List 2026.
